At Carrie Weedon, children love the hands-on activities. They stay engaged & have fun while learning science topics directly tied to the Anne Arundel
County science curriculum. Here are some comments from visiting teachers.
- "Above & beyond outstanding! Thanks so much for an excellent day! The staff was extremely knowledgeable. Areas that were beneficial: Use of microscopes; butterfly garden; art project; live & "dead” rooms; hands-on science."
George T. Cromwell Elementary 5/17/06
- "It was very structured. Everything was very well organized w/ no down time. The teachers were excellent. Students learned about animal movement, bones, etc. Their knowledge of use of microscopes was reinforced. They learned to make their own slides & use observations to classify microscopic organisms. Looking forward to coming back next year!!"
High Point Elementary 5/2-3/06
- "I thought it was very hands-on. I loved the use of the microscopes to see first hand the different parts rather than just looking at illustrations. It was very motivational using a student to dress up as a butterfly when discussing the body parts."

- "I think all went well. Don’t change anything. We would like to thank you for your thoughtful program and positive atmosphere. I enjoy bringing our students. Beneficial areas: experiments were designed to fit county curriculum; clearly written directions; students could quickly get into experiment & work on them fairly independently; students got to work with scientific tools. Goods hands-on situations."

"Great! Hands on. They benefited from all areas: microscope, viewing live animals & the hands on activities weighing bones, measuring wing span, learning about animal tracks. Also, being able to create their own slides."
Pasadena Elementary 3/29/06.
"They loved it!"

"Thanks for making us have a great trip & wonderful experience. See you next year! The emphasis on problem solving using the scientific method was well done. You let the students conduct their own research within guidelines. The activities you did are very difficult to do at our school w/ no lab room or water source in the class room. It was great to see all the kids & parents active."

- "The experience at Carrie Weedon was very beneficial. The kids were able to see how fun science can be. We believe this because the students had an entire day of hands-on experiments. The time for science in school is so limited & these opportunities come so rarely."

Exceptional. It gave the students more experience with the scientific method. The experiments connected to the science curriculum.

- "Our experience at Carrie Weedon was perfect. The instructors were right on target with the curriculum. Our classes participated in the Butterfly activities. This area of study overlapped in our Language Arts, Science and Math content areas. The children loved the hands-on activities and can’t wait to return. Thank you."

We are telling everyone in our school to come for a field trip. We had a wonderful time & hope to return next fall. Thank-you for your patience & kindness to our students. The camouflaging activities were very interesting. Students saw a variety of ways in which animals protect themselves. They enjoyed looking at the centipedes & creating a centipede. The outdoor nature walk was fun.
